Some faces never truly leave us.

Six months after his wife Isabel fell from the Greaves Bridge, Callum Wray, a painting conservator who spends his days telling the real from the copy, is still sleeping around the dent in her pillow.

Then, at a dinner in a city far from home, he sees a woman with Isabel's face. She laughs the way Isabel laughed. She says the words Isabel said. And she swears she has never seen him before.

As a painting begins to reveal the face hidden beneath it, Callum must decide whether he is grieving, being deceived, or losing his mind, and what it would cost to learn whose face he loved.
