The Last Matatu
by Steven
Every road is long until somebody sits next to you.
Nadia has just finished university and moved to Kampala to start her life. Her family thinks she is doing well. She is not. She skips lunch, borrows from a neighbour, and says "I'm fine" every night at eight o'clock.
Every morning she takes the same battered white minibus, and every morning the same quiet young man sits by the window, drawing in a notebook. Eli seems to have as little as she does. He is hiding something too.
Over one long year on the same road, two strangers become friends, then something more. Then the secrets come out, and each of them has to decide who they really want to be.
A story about young people in the city, money, class, family and the courage to say the truth out loud.
A slow-burn love story. Some talk of money worries and family pressure.
